Although Marrakech has a lot to offer, the surrounding areas have some spectacular nature landscapes that are well worth checking out.
To begin with, you should visit the cataracts of Ouzoud, to the east of Marrakech ; they´re spectacular. Water walls from over 100 metres in height from these fascinating natural structures. They´re surrounded by rich and colourful vegetation. If your looking for something even more exotic you can visit some of the innumerable oasis´s that are scattered around the region. Up to 13,000 hectares of palm trees are reigstered here, mostly in the Palmeral, also known as the "Moroccan Bagdad".
Head south following the line of the Atlas Mountains and you´ll come to the con el "ksar" de Aït Ben Haddou; one of the most impressive constructions in the whole of Magreb. This region is inhabited by the native Berber population. A fascinating culture; they still maintain their local traditions and simple way of life. The Berbers are very much a united culture, who live in close harmony with the land.
