Royal Air Maroc offer direct flights to Morocco from Europe, Spain and other countries. Casablanca and Rabat are frequented more than Marrakesh, so it's normal to have a stopover in one of these cities. A domestic flight from Casablanca to Marrakech by plane takes less than 25 minutes. The Barcelona-Casablanca flight takes one hour and forty minutes, and the one from Madrid takes a little less.
Marrakech airport (Ménara) is about seven kms from the Djemaa seat el-Fná. You can take the number 11 to it or get one of the taxis that are usually parked on the main plaza. If you getting a taxi, watch out for the "nocturnal" tarifs. They can be as much as 50% of the official price. Check first. These nocturnal prices are a bit of an enigma, as they're not actually posted anywhere in the taxi. Only the taxi driver and the locals know about them. This often causes bad feelings between the driver and unsuspecting visitor. Take care.
Basically, the final price should be more or less 60 dh. This is normally negotiable. Once you learn how to bargain with the Moroccans things will be a lot easier and there'll be no hard feelings.
The major airlines flying into Morocco are: Air France (AF), Alitalia (AZ), British Airways (BA), KLM, Sabena (SN), Lufthansa (LH) and Swissair (MR.). |
